Let’s go talk about the Philippines and the spread of GNU/Linux in this, as PGMA calls it - 2nd World Country.
“A Computer for Every School” or ACES is a government project aiming to put at least one (1) computer in every school in the Philippines. But with the budget limited, they are now considering using GNU/Linux instead, with that, I strongly recommend using Edubuntu.
Why you ask? Continue reading here to know why…

Bad debts are bad debts because they are way past due and are difficult to collect. Understandably, the natural reaction of companies is to focus their collection efforts in collecting these kind of debts.
This is fine except that, usually, they end up spending resources not commensurate to the benefits, and will most likely be distracted in their efforts to collect their “good” accounts. Outsourcing becomes an option. It is a strategy that most multinational companies in the Philippines have long adopted. Read more at Pinoy Seminars.

I always get those types of calls at the office. A telemarketer introduces herself on the phone as being from a certain insurance company and tells me about a free one-year accident insurance. I always turn them down saying “wala akong balak maaksidente ngayon taon.” (I don’t intend to figure in an accident this year.)
Curious?

When Boholanos talk about “our President”, there is a big chance we are not talking about the incumbent. More likely, we are talking about the first and only Philippine President who came from our dear province.
Carlos P. Garcia was born on November 4, 1896 in Talibon, Bohol to Policronio Garcia and Ambrosia Polistico. He grew up with politics in his blood, his father having served as Municipal Mayor for four (4) terms. He married pharmacist Leonila “Inday” Dimataga-Garcia and had one daughter named Linda Garcia who later married Fernando Campos.

I’m sure many have experienced being asked by a friend or relative to co-sign a loan. And, even if we don’t really like it, we usually oblige with the thought that we are just co-makers. The belief is that we are only going to have problems if the principal will refuse to pay. Not necessarily.
A friend of mine, Nelson Getigan, a lawyer and entrepreneur, warns us of the consequences. In an article entitled “The Unknowing Debtor: A Discussion on the Liability of Co-makers“, he talks about Palmares vs. Court of Appeals, a decision of the Philippine Supreme Court which says that a creditor may go after the co-maker even without going after the principal first.
The article is posted at www.gccs.com.ph, the official website of GCCS and Associates, a company specializing in debt collection and credit investigation here in the Philippines. It is the first of a series of articles related to our laws on debt collection. The lesson is that we should know our rights and avoid paying for someone else’s loan.

A month or so ago, I helped a friend set up a website for his debt collection agency at www.gccs.com.ph. As I am not a professional web designer, I used a free web template downloaded from the net. The design called for some pictures with rounded corners. Obviously, I didn’t know how to make them. But, like in many other instances, I found the answer just by searching for it on the net.
