PayPal Is (Finally!) Here…with Union Bank

What I actually mean is the complete circle of Sending and Receiving features since only the Sending facility was initially available…
A few days ago I received an email from PayPal that new Withdrawal & Receiving features are (finally!) now available here in the Philippines! Well alleluyah!
Just a few days before that, I was asked by a friend from Australia if PayPal payment facilities are already in place here because he heard rumors circulating around, and I said that as far as I know, not yet! Then when I came to know of the good news, I rushed to call up Union Bank because it is perhaps the only bank I know at the moment which offers their EON (Debit Card) account for PayPal transactions. Actually I already have an EON card and I just wanted to have it activated for PayPal enrollment. Unfortunately their Customer Service people are a bit disappointing. I mean not all of them, but a batting average of 3 out of 4 people I talked with were not very helpful at all or perhaps merely not knowledgeable? I’m sorry, but that was how I felt the whole time I was seeking assistance. I found out later in one of the internet forums that somebody said, the best way to get help in Union Bank is write an e-mail in the Customer Service box. What a crap! How very tedious and time consuming! Anyway, I did not want it to damp my high spirits so I just let it passed. What matters is that I am sure this news is already all over town, and people are happy likewise.
Inspite of some shortcomings, I think Union Bank should be given credit for innovative products. Long before online banking system became common, Union Bank was already breaking grounds by introducing the first bank account to be opened via the website with zero deposit. That is the EON Cyber Account, and that was sometime back in 2000 I think. I also remember they were perhaps the first to offer online inquiry via the internet. What was probably experimental, must have hit off and shook the grounds, because everybody seem to follow suit including the giants in the banking industry. Anyway, go check out Union Bank EON at their website www.unionbankph.com. Something might just interest you…
